First-Year Students: University Foundations:   Monday we discussed what it takes to be an engaged learner. Listening in class,  meeting with fellow students to study, taking notes and asking questions. Highlighted was how to be a  productive group member in a study group.  Students are learning how to outline the chapter. We took the  VARK- Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, Kinesthetic test. To determine what the best way is for each student learns.  Them we focused each learning style and discussed how to use the information to their available. First-Year Students: University Foundations: Some students are still working on managing their time wisely while many have figured it out. Students have  nightly homework in University Foundations. Learning to manage everything is a process. We are discussing  technology this week, passwords, social media, and the resources available to all of us.  Students arranged their  own study groups and met to study for the test that was Friday. Students should continue to check   www.edmodo.com for reminders on homework. We are working on time management. Each student created their own to-do list. Students were assigned some reading from the text. We discussed getting any makeup work done so  they can play softball. Mandatory study hall will come before any extra activity. Discussed in class was  procrastination, respecting others time and we had a pop quiz on Friday. We are practicing keeping a  weekly checkbook, completing a deposit slip and recording their transactions in a check register. We are also stressing to students to check emails 3 or 4 times a day that is the primary way we communicate.  Also, s...

First-Year Students: University Foundations: This week in University Foundations we finished up discussed how to get parents involved in our college life,  academic dishonesty, the best way to connect with instructors, goal setting, and advantage of going to college.   Students took their first test on Wednesday over in Office of Accessibly. We also toured the Learning Commons  in the library so students would be familiar as to where to get extra help on assignments.
