First-Year Students:

Workplace & Community Skills:

This week we are beginning to see the end of the tunnel. We discussed how the final week will work. Students will not have classes but will have a schedule to follow to take their finals. Students will not be required to attend extra activities, and all students should be using their time wisely studying and preparing for finals. Students need to arrange a time to meet with Mrs. Southard to turn in all their textbooks and iPads. They also need to email all instructors to let us know what time and day they are planning on leaving. Discussed Wednesday and Friday were soft skills all employers are looking for in employees. Dr. Manning explained how the final will work for workplace and community class.

Learning Strategies:

We began the last chapter before the final. Monday Mrs. Southard demonstrated how to start studying a new chapter. We previewed chapter 8. We read the vocabulary words, illustrations, and summary. We also understand the questions at the end of the chapter so we will be aware of them when reading. Students are working on other study habits completing vocabulary on index cards. Everyone practiced highlighting a paragraph and identifying critical information.  We took guided notes on how and why highlighting a chapter is essential.

Personal Math:

In Personal Math the students were taught by Mrs. Southard and Mr. Brunkhorst this week.  They learned about computing their pay for workers that earned tips and base pay along with workers that might work for commissions and base pay.  On Thursday the students will learn about percents and then get ready to take a review.

Second-Year Students:

Transition Planning II:

This week we are beginning to wind down the semester. We discussed how the final week will work.  Students will not have classes but will have a schedule to follow to take their finals. Students will not be required to attend extra activities, and all students should be using their time wisely studying and preparing for finals. We discussed when the students will be moving out of the dorms and about graduation day.  Very exciting and nervous stuff.

Internship:

Students are finishing up their internships next week.  Their internships have gone well this semester. The students are in the process of writing a paper on their internships for the entire year.  The paper is due on May 6th, and the students will do their final interview On May 6th and May 7th.

Students need to arrange a time to meet with Dr. Manning to turn in all their textbooks and iPad. They also need to email all instructors to let us know what time and day they are planning on leaving campus for the semester.

PLATO:

We had a few students that did not complete Plato from the previous week and unfortunately, they missed the game on Monday.

THRIVE Activities:

This weekend the students went to a Mules Baseball game on Saturday afternoon.  GO Mules!!!

Instructions for the end of the Year:
First-Year Students will take finals during Finals week.  This will mean that they will be here until the week of May 6-10th.  Each student will have different elective final times. So you’ll want to get with your students the week of the 22nd to find out when their last final is.  They will be required to stay until the day of the last final. I’ll send check out information as soon as I receive it. All rooms will need to be cleared and cleaned before they leave.

Second-Year students will have finals during the week of May 6-10th.  They will be required to stay until the day of their last final.  We ask that the students let Dr. Manning/Mr. Brunkhorst knows when they are leaving the dorms.  We realize some students may leave early and then come back the day of graduation. I’ll send out checkout information as I get it.

Graduation items: The Commencement date is May 11th from 10-12. We’ll then have a THRIVE Reception and presentation of THRIVE Certificates of Success to the new Graduates, from 12:30 - 3:30.  This is an exciting time.

Athletics to watch:  Men’s and Women’s Baseball, Softball, Bowling,

Also, the students can participate in Intramural Athletics:
  • We had enough students to have a Spring Softball team.  I’ll keep you updated on the dates of the games.
