THRIVE Director Notes
Posts on this Blog will be directed to help families see what is going on in our THRIVE Program. Items discussed on the Blog have already occurred. To keep updated on what’s coming up please refer to your students or UCM activity calendar.
Learning Strategies- (Mrs. Southard):
Monday we continued talking about the objectives they learn in THRIVE can and should be used in other classes. Students next week's schedule was explained. Wednesday we reviewed with Kahoots the students did well. Friday students worked in groups to prepare for the final.
Workplace & Community Skills - (Mrs. Southard and Dr. Manning):
We finished up the semester with mock interviews. Each student met with Dr. Manning or Mrs. Southard answered questions that were discussed earlier with the class. Also a topic this week was soft skills and how they are needed for any time of job or career.
Personal Math- (Mrs. Garnier):
We finished our unit on Consumer Skills and reviewed for the Unit 4 test which will serve as the final exam in Personal Math. We discussed the purpose of advertising, comparison shopping, figuring discounts, and reading receipts for accuracy. The test will be available from 8:00 a.m. Monday, May 3rd until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6th.
Students were working hard this week getting all the ideas that will be on their finals. They are really excited and ready to go home later this week, but we took time to get the last group picture before they go home.
Second-Year Students:
Transition Planning II: (Dr. Manning):
We finished up the semester by discussing short-term goals for the next couple of months and we also discussed long-term goals for the next year or so. We definitely would like the graduates to work over the summer in a part-time job or full-time job.
The students will have their exit interview with the staff next week. This is part of their final in this class. Further, this helps our program to continue to grow and improve. We discuss the comments that the students gave us and try to improve our instruction and program.
Last week of classes. These students say they are ready for graduation and have had a great year.
Internship II- (Dr. Manning):
The students will be leaving their internship this week and next week. The students have grown in a lot of ways during their internships. At times the students struggled but they learned from those struggles. All the internship locations have said they will miss their interns and the relationships they have developed with the students.
All students should have access to their professional portfolios. Within the portfolio, the student should have a resume, cover letter, recommendation letters, and their PDP.
