Cold and Flu Season Is Just Around the corner…
We talked to the students last week about the colds and flu season. We discussed hand-washing and the use of hand sanitizer to help keep healthy. We will also be discussing the cleanliness of the dorm rooms and keeping their areas clean. Last year we seemed to have a healthier bunch of students, which I believe is from us continually keeping our offices sanitized and the students doing a good job of keeping their areas clean, also. The teachers discussed what it looks like to self-quarantine and what it means. It doesn’t mean that the student has COVID. We typically will ask students that are feeling sick or have a cough to stay in their dorm room. They are still responsible for attending class but virtually through Google Meet. This has helped keep our students from getting sick. Then we also talk to their roommate and suitemates about cleaning rooms and not using their roommate or suitemates items. If a student is sick, the dining halls have an online system for them to use to get their meals brought to them. We also have and will continue to talk to students that aren’t dressing for the weather…
First-Year Students:
FIrst-Year Students Finals Week was November 29-3rd, the first-year students leave a week early during this first semester. They will need to be out of the dorms by 6 pm on Friday the 3rd of December. During this week the first-year students will have their finals for this semester and they will be able to leave after their last final. There will also be a check-off sheet that the students will need to make sure of and do before they leave for Winter Break. We ask that families discuss when they will be picking up their students so staff will know when students are planning on leaving.
University Foundations: Debra Southard
This week we spent time preparing for next semester. One day second-year students walked our students around campus to show them where their new classes will be located. Wednesday we completed the pink sheet that students will use over in the OAS office to take tests in their non-thrive classes. We checked my central for any updates on upcoming classes. Students were shown their google calendar for spring and Checked for any mistakes. Thursday was due to their big “My Story” assignment. Friday we took the final. Most of the questions were put on www.Edmodo.com this week. So students could use them to study.
Individual & Family Health and Relationships: Debra Southard & Lisa Garnier
Students wrapped up the semester with discussions of the dangers of alcohol and tobacco. We used a kahoot quiz game to review for the final exam which students took on December 3rd.
Technology Literacy: Lisa Garnier
We viewed the final project which was their student iMovie Book Trailers. They did a great job and were very creative. The rest of the time was spent finishing up work for this semester and preparing for next semester.

Career Exploration: Michael Brunkhorst
This (11/29) week the students had a workday to get support on their resumes to help them get finished up and ready for the families to look at and review over Thanksgiving break. Then others will have time to continue to work on their final paper for this class, My Life Choice.
Second-Year Students:
2nd-Year Students Finals Week:
Finals week for second-year students are here. Your student should be taking finals in Dr. Manning’s class soon and then their elective classes are scheduled depending on their class times. Most have already submitted their leaving times but make sure they check out with the CA on duty.
Transition Planning I: Gary Manning
This week in class we prepared for the final on Dec. 7th. The students received a study guide sheet a couple of weeks ago. We continue to review by using that study guide. If the students know the study guide they will do well on the test.
We also started preparing to leave campus next week for the semester break. This process can be stressful for the students. We talked over the break, do not get too lazy and continue to do your own laundry, work a part-time job, volunteer within your community, help your parents around the house.
Internship I: Gary Manning
We have been preparing for the students' mock interviews. The students received some interview questions a couple of weeks ago. This should have helped the students start to formulate answers to questions that they may have to answer during an interview process. Further, we discuss what type of clothes you should wear to an interview, what time you should show up, what materials you should have with you or not bring to an interview (No cell phones, ear pods) The mock interview is the students’ final in the internship class.
