Director Notes: Thank you to all the families that were able to participate in our first virtual family meeting. We were able to meet with all 2nd-year families the week before Spring Break and met with most of the first-year families the week after Spring Break. We are going to look at having more of these in the future. Learning Strategies- (Mrs. Southard): This week we started Chapter 4. Assignments were due daily. We watched a 6-minute video on things that distract us from studying. Also covered was how problem-solving on each of the distractions. Wednesday we talked about a mnemonic device. A reminder that next week, the dorms will open back up on Sunday, March 21st at noon .   Learning Strategies- (Mrs. Southard): Our counselor in training did a refresher course in effective communication that included manipulation or even lying to a friend. Students this week are working on their critical thinking skills and writing skills on a project called “The Lifeboat”. Friday we worked on getting caught up on assignments. Workplace & Community Skills - (Mrs. Southard and Dr. Manning):  A topic this week centered around getting a summer job or volunteering. The importance of getting that experience over the summer. Places that needed volunteers....

  THRIVE Director Notes Posts on this Blog will be directed to help families see what is going on in our THRIVE Program.  Items discussed on the Blog have already occurred.  To keep updated on what’s coming up please refer to your students or UCM activity calendar The students just finished up the midterm this last week.  We’ll have midterm progress reports out by the 11th or 12th.  Next year’s classes/internships are in full swing.  Most students should have submitted their top five classes and all have filed out the Roommate Questionnaire to help the staff set up rooms.  We have already had many interviews and are more than halfway through our students for next year’s first-year group.  It’s hard to believe we are almost done with the year.  We have already started the planning process for our 2nd-year graduation and hope to have more details soon. A reminder that this week, Friday the 12th the students will have to be out of the dorms by 6...
