To keep updated on what’s coming up please refer to the THRIVE activity calendar or UCM activity calendar. First-Year Students: University Foundations : Monday we went over a list of distractions. The students' listed items they struggled with. We discussed how to deal with each distraction.  Students were reminded to use the activity app in order to earn discussion board points each week. Students were assigned reading chapter 3 this week. Mrs. Southard demonstrated how to outline the chapter. Students learned how to take notes on chapter 3 using notability. We discussed the importance of time management. Students checked their grades on Blackboard and reviewed how to check on assignments using edmodo.com. Everyone was reminded to check their emails 4 times a day. Several students are not referring to their to-do list. T...

Some added ideas from the THRIVE team: It’s been discussed that the next couple of items may be beneficial to students in our program.  One of the ideas is dealing with student medications. We’ve understood that some of our students have been able to get “blister packs” of their medications.  This wraps up medications by day so that the students can easily see if they have missed a day of medication.  In the next couple of weeks, the THRIVE team will be getting information to help us finish up Midterm Progress reports.  These reports will be emailed to the student and parent/guardians around the end of the 8th week. First-Year Students: University Foundations :  This week in University Foundations we finished up discussing Chapter one. Goal setting, advantages of going to college and how to send a proper email to instructors was discussed.  Students got into study groups and it was recommended that they meet with their groups and study for the Chapter 1 test. Mrs. Southard requested students plan a place and time they are going to meet and study. Reading the text to each other, taking notes on the information and writing practice test questions was suggested. Also, review the powerpoint would be helpful. First-Year Students: University Foundations :  Topics this week included bullying, goal setting, and critical thinking. We discussed the advantages of attending college. A couple of homework assignments were given. They were available on blackboard. The student signed up for Edmodo.com that is a place they can go to get reminders on homework. Students need to let us know if the cannot access their adobe reading. Goal-setting was a topic on Friday. This week we also started to-do lists for each student to remember what assignments need to be done.  The students had a visit from Mrs. Southard.  It looks like some good eaten.
