Next week is Finals week.  We’ve asked all students to maintain a quiet atmosphere as all of our students will be taking their finals throughout the week.  I’ve also sent families a copy of the checkout procedure for that week.  Dorms will close on Friday 7th, at 6 pm.  I’ll be checking with the CA to ensure that the students have signed up for checkout.  If you have any questions don’t hesitate to call. Learning Strategies- (Mrs. Southard): Monday we finished Chapter 5 with a test and discussed several of the answers as we took the test. Wednesday we finished up several topics. How to know what is important. Why note-taking is important to the overall learning of the material and different ways to take notes. For the upcoming test next week several questions were posted on edmodo.com along with the correct answers. Students were encouraged to check that out frequently. Students were reminded of a five-day study plan.  Workplace & Community Skills - (Mrs. Southard and Dr. Manning):   This week in class we discussed applications. How to fill out an application using black and blue ink. Writing neatly, Using the information from their resumes to complete the application. Students practice filling...

  THRIVE Director Notes Posts on this Blog will be directed to help families see what is going on in our THRIVE Program.  Items discussed on the Blog have already occurred.  To keep updated on what’s coming up please refer to your students or UCM activity calendar Learning Strategies- (Mrs. Southard): On Monday we took the test for Chapter 4 and several assignments were opened on Tuesday so students could see what was coming up and what they needed to work into their schedule. The rest of the week we took notes on Chapter 5. A lot of the topic was about active listening and how listening in high school was different from what they have experienced in college classes. Distractions were also a topic. Workplace & Community Skills - (Mrs. Southard and Dr. Manning):  We used this week as a time to work on assignments. Students had several assignments to work on. Some topics discussed were acronyms, acrostics, mnemonic devices, and other cues to help us remember. Students had daily assignments in class to turn in.  Workplace & Community Skills - (Mrs. Southard and Dr. Manning):  We finished talking about stress and ways to deal with it. Dr. Manning discussed cover letters and students received an assignment about that. Students completed their last job shadowing experience this week.   Students were asked to write about each job shadowing experience.
