First-Year Students: University Foundations - Chapter 5  We discussed how to prepare for a class the night before and that morning. We worked on a to-do list and discussed assignments that were due this week. Some students are having trouble remembering to use the activity app every week. They do not get discussion board points if the app is not used. Also, Students are practicing using correct grammar in the discussion board.  Students are supposed to comment on someone else's discussion board for full credit. First-Year Students: University Foundations : This week we started Chapter 4 on how people learn. A couple times during the week we went over our to-do list.  Students were asked to email Dr. Manning a list of classes they are interested in for next semester. Wednesday we walked over to the Student Union to see where everyone's new classes are that start on Monday. We finished the week taking notes on Notability on the chapter. We also discussed what the word elaborate means. Students worked on some examples of how to construct a paragraph and expanding ideas and thoughts. First-Year Students: University Foundations : We discussed how to figure time in Plato while completing the assessments. We also watched a clip from America's Got Talent, Susan Boyle. We talked about how important the THRIVE program is to everyone as well as UCM. The saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover” was the theme on Tuesday. Weekly point sheets are due every Thursday morning. Two former THRIVE students Avery and Richard came to our classroom and discussed many topics. How THRIVE has given them confidence, how they feel they have made life long friends in THRIVE and discussed what they tell people about the program. Assigned this week was Chapter 4 outline. First-Year Students: University Foundations : Monday Students learned how to figure time spent on Plato. Students were also told the test for Chapter 3 is this Friday so start studying now. Students were asked to form their own study groups and study alone. Also, Students made a list of ways to help with time management and discussed each of them. One was getting up 15 minutes earlier a day. Tuesday we finished discussing the chapter and played Kahoots.
