First-Year Students: University Foundations - Some students have gotten behind turning in work. Mrs. Southard requested those students to work in the THRIVE classroom when they are not in classes. Homework was due daily in class. Students were assigned a paper 3 to 5 pages about their life. They have been working on small assignments they can use to build this paper. I have requested all students to have a computer mouse. It makes highlighting misspelled words so much easier. Just using a computer, in general, is quicker.  I have already posted on edmodo.com the essay questions for the final. Students can print that off, complete it and bring it to class on Dec 6th and staple to their tests. Be...

We are preparing to write a story about themselves. We have been working on bits and pieces of points of discussion for their papers. One of the things we did this week was listing their personal characteristics and ones they are proud of. Students submitted assignments on BB. We had a lesson on metaphors. Students were asked to write a metaphor about their life that will be added to their paper next week. First-Year Students: University Foundations - We watched a video by Will Smith about 10 steps to being successful. Students completed a paper this week on what success looks like to them. Also turned in was a one page paper on a career where students researched a career of their choice discovering pay, tasks involved, seasonal or not and educational requirements. Friday students turned in an outline for the chapter. We talked about emotional intelligence and social filters. We defined the word congruent. Due on test day was a handout. Students were to write a paragraph about what they studied the past week every day to prepare for the test. We also switched books from Step by Step to  Skills for Success. This book will focus more on personal skills. We wrote a to-do list for the week. Discussed the importance of following instructions on assignments and asking for help.  Daily Independent Living Skills - T his has been Personal Safety Week in DILS.
