First-Year Students:
Director Notes:
Winter Break coming up I wanted to give first-year families some information about leaving.
For Winter Break:
First-year students leave one week earlier than the rest of the students. First-year students will need to be out of the dorms on December 4th, by 6 pm. Their finals will be the week of November 30th - December 4th. They will get a check-off sheet that will instruct them on what they need to have done before they leave and it generally needs to be checked off by an RA. Here is a sample list, I’ll make sure the students have the updated list the week they get back from Thanksgiving. I will send an email early this week with any updated items.
All garbage from the room disposed of in the dumpster.
Room free of any other garbage swept, and cleaned bathroom, also.
Clear the floor of all items not belonging there.
Unplug everything in their room, including power strips and extension cords.
Unplug and leave the refrigerator open, placing a towel at the bottom of the refrigerator to catch any moisture.
Take home all perishable food items.
Clean and store any dining ware.
Close all windows and close all blinds.
This will give you some ideas on what will be needed during these times.
University Foundations: Debra Southard
Discussion this week centered around finishing the semester. Students were encouraged to walk around campus and figure out where their class for next semester. We had a conversation about the use of the office of accessibility and how students will utilize those services next semester. The procedure to arrange to take a test for the non thrive class was covered. Students had been working on some smaller assignments which will help them on the “My Story” assignment which was discussed on Tuesday. A scoring guide was explained.
Mrs. Southard’s class is practicing class with Google Hangout. Great job, Debra and students on continuing to practice.

Transition Planning I: Gary Manning
The students are reviewing and have a study guide for the end of the semester final. We will continue to review the materials over the next couple of weeks in class but the students need to study outside of class time too. That final will be December 8th (8:00 - 10:00).
Internship I: Gary Manning
The students' final for this class is a mock interview. The mock interview will be during finals week. The interview usually takes about 30 - 45 minutes and we want the interview to be as realistic as possible. For example, the students need to arrive 10 -5 minutes early before the interview starts, dress appropriately, be prepared for the questions, and use good communication skills (body language, professional communication).
Plato: Debra Southard
Students are getting Plato completed. I am proud of the work they have accomplished this semester.
THRIVE Activities:
Mentor Activities: No Activity last weekend. Kim will have a destressing Game night for the second-year students this coming weekend.
Great Job Everyone!! For more pictures please join our THRIVE Facebook and/or Instagram pages.
Important upcoming dates:
Next Mentor Activity: The last Mentor Activity will be an activity by Kim-Game night-Destressor before finals.
End of Semester Party: for students will be on December 3rd from 5-7. There will be no study hall that night.
Spring Semester: will start back up on Monday, January 11th. The teachers plan on bringing the students by their class areas before they leave for break and will also remind them when they get back. Classes are in the process of being enrolled and most students should be able to look on their MyCentral to see what they have for the semester.
Spring Move-in: will be on January 10th and the dorms will open at noon.
