Director Notes:

Winter Break:

1st-Year: First-Year students left last Friday…  Enjoy your Winter Break, we’ll see you next year.

2nd-Year:  Second-year students have finals the week of December 9th-13th.  Students must have a checkout time before 6 pm on Friday the 13th.   It’s suggested that families get with their son/daughter during Thanksgiving break to see when they can be picked up.  Finals vary, so get with your son/daughter about when they are done with finals and their internship.  There is a checkout procedure for this that the students will have to sign up for a time to get checked out before leaving.  This will need to be followed or a fee can be assessed. The students do not move out completely.  Just take items that they need over the break.

3rd-Year:

Third-year students are different and they will receive instructions on signing out or other procedures by email.  Please have your son/daughter read their emails and then plan over Thanksgiving break when they come home.  They have finals the week of December 9th-13th. Finals vary, so get with your son/daughter about when they are done with finals and their internship.

First-Year Students:

Some early shoppin going on…

Learning Strategies: Debra Southard

This week students were reminded of the process of leaving campus over Thanksgiving break and Christmas break. We practiced going virtual during a class period. Snow days were explained as well. We went over the last chapter about Highlighting textbooks. We talked about how finals work.

Individual Relationships and Health:  Joni Shelton

We finished out our semester with a lesson about childbirth, labor, and delivery. We watched a video titled “Miracle of Life”, this video shows conception to childbirth, all 40 weeks in 12 minutes. On Wednesday students took their semester final and I shared a compilation presentation of pictures and activities that some of our students sent to me in regards to what they liked to do as toddlers. I look forward to having these students in Daily Independent Living Skills next semester.

Technology Literacy:  Lisa Garnier

Students turned in their final iMovie trailers, which we viewed in class this week. It was awesome to see how well the students worked together as teams to produce wonderfully creative projects. It was a great semester, and this group of students is amazing!

Career Exploration: Gary Manning

This was our final week of classes.  The students needed to submit their professional resume.  We also discussed trying to volunteer or work somewhere over the semester break.  The students need to work/volunteer as much as they can.  This gives them experience working with others and the responsibility they will need for their internships.

Second-Year Students:

Some Christmas Cheer…  Katie singing in the choir.  Was a great performance.

Transition Planning I: Gary Manning

The students are studying for their finals and preparing to leave for the semester break.  They have had a good semester. They have learned a lot about being more independent and responsible.

Internship I: Gary Manning

The students did their mock interviews this week.  We also discussed their internships for the spring semester.

Foods & Nutrition II: Mrs. Southard

We made beef stroganoff. The students did a good job. We talked about their final schedule for all classes and finals week. Students planned what they wanted to prepare for their last lab. We completed a Kahoots that included the final questions.

Looks like Katie helped with the Thanksgiving Table setting…

Third-Year Students:

Some early shopping going on at the UCM Holiday Market…

Transition Planning III: Lisa Garnier

The students are finishing the semester with a time management project for the Spring semester. They have their Spring class schedules and have been given “suggested” internship hours. From this information, they are creating a study schedule for their Spring classes. It’s never too early to plan ahead!

Internship III: Lisa Garnier

I’m so pleased with how independently the students have handled their internships this semester. They’ve set their schedules with their supervisors, they have communicated absences, they’ve managed their transportation to and from their jobs, and they have just done an outstanding job of “adulting.”

Foods and Nutrition III: Mrs. Garnier

The final project is in full swing. Students are planning a complete holiday meal from appetizers to desserts and drinks complete with recipes and a shopping list for ingredients. It’s been a fun semester, and I’m excited to see what shows up on their holiday menus.
